What Is Homeopathy? Homeopathy is a gentle, yet highly effective system of medicine that uses naturally occurring substances in the form of remedies to stimulate the body’s own healing power. It is suitable for everyone, even sensitive patients, from pregnancy and birth through childhood and adolescence to adulthood and older age.
Benefits of Homeopathy
Patients are treated as individuals, not as a collection of disease labels.
Homeopathy addresses all your symptoms - mental, emotional and physical.
Homeopathic remedies are gentle, subtle and powerful.
How Does It Work? Homeopathy works by stimulating the body’s own natural ability to heal itself. Although gentle, the results can be powerful and long lasting. When a remedy is given by a Homeopath it will be an individualised prescription, based on the totality of your symptoms, which will include your physical, mental and emotional state. The remedies are prepared by strictly regulated Homeopathic pharmacies.
What Attracts People to Homeopathy? Homeopathic remedies are particularly appealing to people who prefer a natural approach to health. They are safe to take, have no side-effects, and can be taken at the same time as other prescribed medication, under the supervision of a professional Homeopath. Homeopathy is both cost effective and eco-friendly.
What Can It Treat? Many conditions can be helped effectively by Homeopathy, whether they are the consequences of trauma, short term illnesses or chronic conditions. It would be impossible to list them all, but some of the more common ailments encountered are: stress and anxiety, insomnia, depression, fatigue, headaches, period and fertility problems, pregnancy related conditions, menopause, children's illnesses, ear, nose, throat and eye disorders, digestive and urinary tract problems, respiratory tract illnesses, bone/joint conditions and skin conditions. It may also be effective where there is no specific diagnosis.
What Does A Consultation Involve? When you visit your Homeopath for the first time they will take a very detailed medical history and will also want to understand a little about you as a person. They will want to know all your symptoms, what makes your condition better or worse, for example, as well as other aspects of your life. They are aware that establishing good health involves a thorough understanding of both mind and body, so time is taken to listen to both emotional and physical problems. The first visit will usually last about 30 minutes to an hour. Subsequent visits are usually shorter, depending on the nature of the complaint. The number of consultations needed is difficult to predict – it depends on a number of factors such as the age of the patient, how long the symptoms have been going on and their individual response to the prescription. Your Homeopath will be able to make an assessment when they have listened to the details of your case. Most complaints clear up rapidly; longstanding chronic conditions may take longer to improve although a sense of change should be experienced from the outset.
About Your Remedy Your Homeopath will give you a Homeopathic remedy, either in the form of liquid or small pills which should be allowed to dissolve in your mouth. Please follow your Homeopath’s instructions carefully. Please tell your Homeopath about any medicine or supplement that you take regularly and any dental treatment you may be undergoing. It is recommended that you maintain your relationship with your GP or specialist. When necessary homeopathic and conventional medicine can be used alongside one another to give the most effective and appropriate medical care.
